Few months back, Google has surprised everyone by introducing the Chrome OS based notebook named as Google Chrome Cr-48. This new product was a part of the pilot program which Google had initiated to distribute it free of cost among the qualifying citizens of United States and thereby avail their feedback in return. This pilot program was aimed at collecting detailed user review and bugs detection so as to make this project to meet the expected standards of the people belonging to various categories like students, businessman, professionals, home users etc.

The Google Chrome Cr-48 pilot project was however intended only for the residents of United States and hence, the international users had no chance of participating and availing the free notebook. The Google Chrome OS which is part of the Chromium project was used in this netbook which is basically a browser based operating system mostly used for web browsing related task with also the cloud storage technology being used within it.

The said Google Chrome OS is also said to be offered by some of the reputed laptop and computer manufacturers in their upcoming products to be launched worldwide. But even when that was said long before, there was no indication regarding when the same would be rolled out for public use. But now, a recent tweet in twitter by the VP of the Product Management department named Sundar Pai has been spotted to respond to one query by some user which states that the shipping of the Google Chrome Cr-48 notebook is brought to halt and will no longer be continued.

As such, there was also a hint that new partner products featuring the OEM versions of the said Chrome OS is scheduled for release during the mid year which might fall somewhere within the month of June, July or August of the current year 2011.

The Cr-48 unit distributed earlier has not succeeded in satisfying the users with its available features and a lot of expected utilities were either absent or not up to the optimal standard. However, it was not too bad either and had also some merits to be appreciated and accepted. With the release of the partner products which would be featuring the improved Chrome OS, we may however expect some enhanced and extended capabilities.
