The first beta edition of the Mandriva 2011 is released and the same is now available for download. Being a beta version, it does reflect a stable release and is meant for public testing only against which the final edition will be prepared and accordingly made available in a couple of months ahead. Mandriva 2011 is based on the latest KDE Software Compilation 4.6.1, GNOME 2.32.1 and XFCE 4.8.0 while it uses an older version of the Linux kernel 2.6.37.2.


This open-source operating system covers most of the latest software and application standards and thus makes it different than other distros available of it kind. Many softwares and web applications like Mozilla Firefox 4, OpenOffice v3.2.0 etc are present within this first beta release and also uses Clementine 0.6 as its primary preloaded music player.

There are also many more changes which has been registered in this new version including the look and feel of the desktop environment. There are new applications being added to its repository such as Choqok that works as a micro-blogging client within the desktop. The network manager and the Xorg Server has also been updated and there latest version stands at v0.8.3.997 and v1.9.4 respectively.
