Mobile Number Portability (MNP) Services has finally made its way to India and is now available in some selected service areas in the country. In our previous article, we have mentioned some of the concerned steps and procedures to apply for Mobile Number Portability Service in India. But as usual with any other services being available in the country, the MNP Service too bears certain rules and regulation and other eligibility criteria for availing this service of porting a mobile number to a different mobile service operator. Therefore, in order to get approval for such number portability one has to go through the form and procedure while requesting the services and also meet the certain requirements to be eligible for this service.
There are various conditions which must be satisfied for making a porting request of mobile number in India. Some of these key requirements which must be known before applying to the number portability service are as follows:-

There are various conditions which must be satisfied for making a porting request of mobile number in India. Some of these key requirements which must be known before applying to the number portability service are as follows:-
- The porting of mobile numbers can be availed for both prepaid and postpaid mobile subscribers. It is also possible to switch between GSM networks and CDMA networks while still retaining any given mobile number that is registered in his name.
- In case of postpaid mobile subscribers, it must be ensured that there is no outstanding dues against the said mobile number to which porting is requested. All the previous bills concerned with it must be cleared and paid in full before making a porting request.
- There should not be any prohibition being imposed to the said mobile number by the Court of Law. If there is any such restrictions in place, the porting application will be rejected and may not be even accepted.
- In case of prepaid mobile users, any balance which are left over within the previous operator or the Donor Operator may not be carried forward and hence they will be losing any available balance that they have in their account.
- The postpaid subscribers would require to submit a copy of the previous bill of the said number which should bear the confirmation seal of payment.
- The mobile phone number which is applied for porting must be absolutely under the name of the applicant and no petition of change of ownership must be pending against it.
- Any mobile phone subscriber in India will be eligible to make a request for porting numbers under Mobile Number Portability service for once every 3 months (90 days) only.
- The porting of mobile numbers can be availed within the specific licensed service area only and applications can be made for such services only within the said licensed area or operating circle where the number is previously registered.
- If the applicant have changed his mind and want to withdraw the porting of the mobile number, he can do it only within the first 24 hours of the submission of the request but the fee charged for the service will not be refunded for any case.
