As a response to all the anticipation among the Indian mobile subscribers, Aircel has finally rolled out the much awaited 3G services in the country. So far, it is now available only in Chennai where it was recently launched while they also have plans to eventually facilitate 3G services in some other service areas too such as Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, North-East, Orissa, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh (East) and West Bengal for which they have acquired license to serve in these respective regions. Earlier, this service was offered only by a few mobile operators in the country such as Airtel, BSNL, Tata Docomo and so on but with the emergence of other key players like Aircel in this regard is definitely going to make some difference in the standard of the services offered and also the tariff that follows.








In a statement made by CEO of Aircel, Mr Gurdeep Singh said that the high speed 3G network will boost the overall internet surfing experience of all the people especially those of the youths which comprises more than 50% of the total population most of whom are also a regular user of social networking sites like Facebook and also YouTube and similar online resources. He also added that the concept of facilitating high speed data network will also create many different opportunities in the field of education, empowerment, entertainment and engagement while also leaving a positive impact on the lifestyle of the consumers.

As an introductory offer, Aircel will be providing free data usage of around 250MB and also video calling facility up to 50 minutes absolutely free as part of the trial package. This free trial usage is applicable for all the new subscribers of both prepaid and postpaid category which will be valid from February 22 to February 27 and any usage beyond this limit will be charged according to the tariff plans opted for. So, for any video call made after the trial usage has been availed will cost around Rs.3 per minute while all additional data usage will be charged at 3p/10kb approximately.

The detailed tariff plans are yet to be disclosed and we are expecting some official updates soon in this regard. The coverage in all the licensed service area will be completed within a month as hinted from various quarters and we can therefore expect some good deal from them so far as the tariff and quality of the service is concerned.
